After allegedly taking pills that he thought were opioids, a Florida resident was charged with a felony. They were actually laxatives.

According to an affidavit by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Peter Emery, 56 was videotaped using a safe to take pills.

Later, he told police that he had taken two pills thinking that it was hydrocodone-acetaminophen. This is a drug that contains an opioid. The report stated that he tossed the pills away after he discovered it was “something else”.

According to a Walmart product listing, the pills were Equate Gentle Laxatives. These are over-the-counter medications that can relieve constipation.

WFLA-TV reported that Emery’s neighbor took Emery’s pain relief pills and changed his medication. The station reported that Jaime Reem, Emery’s roommate, also set up a camera in order to record the incident.

According to the affidavit, Emery was previously convicted of theft on multiple occasions.

Online records indicate that Emery was charged with a felony and several petty thefts Thursday.

According to records, Emery was taken into custody by the Pinellas Park Police near St. Petersburg Florida. His full name was listed in his affidavit of the police as Peter Hans Emery Jr.
