A Santa Rosa County sheriff’s deputy was found not guilty of shooting and wounding an unclothed man who fired the crossbow at him and other officers as they attempted to take him into custody for barricading himself inside the home.
On October 20, sheriff’s emergency services were contacted to the residence of a suspect who claimed his son 26-year-old Glen Phillips, was under the influence of drugs and was threatening to kill him at his residence according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The report was released on Wednesday. The report states that, according to it the father scheduled an appointment with deputies on the premises, and he never showed in the store.
In the morning the father rang 911 and told them that Phillips had locked himself inside their home along Highway 4 in Jay and was refusing to let him inside. The police responded and the father told them once more that Phillips threatened to shoot him with a the crossbow.
After a long period of unsuccessful attempts to get Phillips out of the home Four police officers were allowed into the house and saw Phillips declare that the man had been “armed in danger.” As they entered the home, they were able to see Phillips wearing an unarmed and naked crossbow that he was aiming towards the lawmakers, as per the report.
MP Kevin Dalglish told FDLE investigators that he was concerned for his safety as well as that of the other deputies as the MP shot and injured Phillips on his left armpit. Phillips fell off the crossbow after which he was being cared for by deputy as well as medical personnel.
