Florida man convicted of second-degree killing in stabbing his friend to death in dispute over gumbo seasoning.

According to The Panama City News Herald, Orlando Ricardo Thompson (27), was found guilty of Caleb Halley’s 2015 death. He faces life imprisonment for this crime. Thompson will be sentenced on May 4. Thompson and Halley began to argue about the spice level of the marmalade that they had made at Buddy’s Seafood Market on June 23, 2015.

The argument quickly turned into a physical altercation with a two-by-4 knife and a pocket knives. Thompson was accused of starting another fight, this time using a decorative sword. Halley tried to defend herself with a mop handle but was stabbed in his stomach. Halley was killed two days later.

The prosecution used video surveillance to support their story.

From 2004 to 2007, Halley was the University of Florida Osceola’s main mascot.
